Design and Technology
As a school, we believe that Design and Technology is a vital and important part of our education. Design and Technology prepares children to deal with tomorrows rapidly changing world.
"Design is a funny word. Some people think design means how it looks. But of course, if you look deeper, it's really how it works." Steve Jobs
Design and Technology stimulates Curiosity as range of existing products are evaluated and explored. Resilience is developed as the pupils’ design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts across the curriculum. They are given opportunities to generate, develop, model and communicate their ideas through talking, drawing, templates and mock-ups. They develop independence through practical tasks, learning to select from and use a range of tools, equipment and materials which are fit for purpose. Large scale projects develop co-operation and team work through sharing of ideas, discussion, testing, re-evaluating and taking on different roles in the production process. Through skill specific practical lessons, confidence to work independently and to support others is developed. Children are challenged to reflect on their outcomes and to evaluate their ideas and products against the initial design criteria and aspire to improve further.
Opportunities to for Design and Technology are woven throughout the whole school curriculum. It enables them to identify real life problems and needs and to respond to them by developing a range of ideas and by making products.
At our annual Exhibition we celebrate our achievements in Design and Technology by show casing the wonderful products that we have created.
"Technology makes possibilities. Design makes solutions."
