Our Lady Queen Of Heaven Catholic Primary School

Personal, Health, Social, Economic and Citizenship

Our Intent

At Our Lady Queen of Heaven School we believe that the personal, social and health development of each child, in conjunction with their global citizenship skills, has a significant role in their ability to learn. We value the importance of PSHEC in preparing children for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of adult life. In addition we believe that a child needs to learn about the many emotional aspects of life and how to manage their own emotions. We are also aware of the way that PSHEC supports many of the principles of Safeguarding. (See Safeguarding Policy.)

At Our Lady Queen of Heaven we aim to help the children to:

  1. Develop confidence and a responsible attitude to make the most of their abilities encouraging children to become aspirational and determined in their thinking.
  2. Prepare to play an active role as a members of the local community, able to cooperate and collaborate with others, as part of a team, understanding fairness and equity as life-long values.
  3. Develop a healthy, safe lifestyle with the ability to make appropriate choices. This is an imperative element of the curriculum, which develops a need for healthy positive growth mind-set and the resilience to persevere with activities that may be once have felt too difficult.
  4. We encourage children to develop their creativity and expressive abilities, through improvisation and problem-solving.
  5. Develop good relationships and respect the differences between people.
  6. Understand some basic principles of finances.
  7. Make a positive contribution to the life of our school and church community. Different experiences for different age groups ensure all will get a range of appropriate challenges as they move through the school.
  8. Develop an understanding of wider global issues and how these impact on the lives of us all as global citizens.

This work is closely aligned with our policy on Physical Education (PE) as well as our Healthy Schools Accreditation (HSL) and our GOLD Sainsbury’s School Games mark.
