Design and Technology
At OLQH, we believe that Design and Technology is a vital and important part of our education. Design and Technology prepares children to deal with tomorrow’s rapidly changing world.
“Deign is a funny word. Some people think design means how it looks. But of course, if you look deeper, it’s really how it works.” Steve Jobs
At our school, you will see that Design and Technology stimulates Curiosity as they evaluate and explore a range of existing produces. Resilience develops, as the pupils design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts across the curriculum. They are given the opportunity to generate, develop, model and communicate their ideas through talking and drawing.
They develop independence through practical tasks, learning to select and use tool and materials, which are fit for purpose.
Through skill specific practical lessons, confidence to work independently. Large-scale projects develop co-operation and teamwork.
The children are encouraged to reflect on their outcomes and to evaluate their ideas and products against the initial design criteria and aspire to improve further.
Opportunities for Design and Technology are woven throughout the whole school curriculum giving depth and substance to the subject.
At our annual Exhibition we celebrate our achievements in Design and Technology by show casing the wonderful products that we have created.
